Only one in three Canadians expecting to retire in 2030 are saving at levels required to meet basic household expenses in their retirement (Canadian Institute of Actuaries). We’ve found that Canadian soon-to-be retirees simply aren’t getting the help they need from the bank, or from their human resources departments.
Planning retirement can seem like an incredible task. Through this program, we lead our students through the retirement process step-by-step, and make each stage meaningful to them. At the beginning of the program, students may purchase a workbook, complete with details of each session, up-to-date examples, planning tools, figures, and projections. The sessions will lead students through the spectrum of money management in Canada, their unique characteristics, and the potential benefits and drawbacks.
We start with the basics of investing, then move to forms of pension income, and then tie the program together, by demonstrating how to make retirement income money work for our students. The program is a concise overview of the issues to help attendees become more knowledgeable, to be aware of the options available to them, and to give them the power to take control of retirement.
The course is currently taught through the Toronto District School Board, as well as Sheridan College.
